Hunter Gatherer (Global Game Jam 2018)
“
Hunter Gatherer was created by a 10 person team over 48 hours as part of the 2018 Global Game Jam. In it, players assume the role of either the Hunter or the Gatherer; siblings who are fighting for their lives in a cyber-punk battle pit. Hunter must face a monster in the center arena while Gatherer searches for resources in the surrounding area to transmit to his sister.
I worked on various parts of the design side including level design, character design, overall color scheme, and trailer production, but my primary responsibility was to design and create sprites for the game's enemies: the "Boss" and "Mobs."
Preliminary sketches (Character Design, Enemy Design, Movement Sprites).
I initially worked with my team to develop the base aesthetic for the player characters, from which we would build the rest of the design.
Enemy "Mob" Design and Sprite Sheet
Once we decided on a some basic design principles such as color schemes and a few key words to describe each of the player characters and the enemies, we divided the work. I worked on the enemy "mobs" and boss designs and sprite sheets while another member of the team created finalized designs and sprite sheets for the player characters.
Boss Final Design and Sprite Sheet
While only the base, idle, and walking animations were actually implemented in the game, there were also planned shooting and "rage" actions that I animated for if we were able to implement them in time.
Other Stuff
I also created a few miscellaneous designs as needed such as a rudimentary map for our level, some of our menus, and buttons for the player to use in the start screen.
Post-Jam
After the jam, I did some further brainstorming on the two player characters and possible changes to their helmets and armor.
